Flame Effects for the Artist Workshop & Burn On! Fundraiser

May is really heating up, especially the weekend of the 23rd-24th.

If you’ve got a fascination with flame effects like we do and want to know more then the Flame Effects for the Artist Workshop being held in Melbourne at Footscray Makers Lab is the course for you!

In this 2 day workshop you will learn basic practices and principles for incorporating fuel based flame effects into your work. This class is great for the beginning fire artist and always has something new for the “expert”. Like other classes hosted in North America we’ll have a participants who have had all levels of experience. This has made for some great questions and projects that have been both fun and challenging. We’ve also asked some of the leading flame effects creators and safety experts in Australia from SA, NSW and VIC to participate in the course to ensuring you’re getting the most up to date local information. Day one of the workshop is all theory and on day two we’ll build a flame effect as a group project giving you hands on experience fabricating, plumbing and working on electrical switches. For more information and to register click here.

Saturday May 23rd we’re hosting a fabulous night of performances, workshops, market stall, food trucks and dancing. Burn On! our first fundraiser for Flame Effects Australia won’t disappoint. Tickets are $16 full price / $13 concession and is likely to sell out, get tickets here.

White Night Melbourne 2015!

What an incredible night that was! Everything went so well from set up, to the all night event (Feb 21st 7 p.m. to Feb 22nd 7 a.m.) to tear down. We managed to miss the torrential rain on Saturday arriving to a blue sky with amazing clouds and a rainbow before sunset. The crowds were fantastic and we loved sharing our beautiful installation with you.

Big shout outs to our incredible team of volunteers who worked with us for two months helping with everything from site prep, to making lanterns for the Fire Forest, to sourcing LEDs to make the magical wings. Sean and I could not have done this project without you. We’d also like to thank White Night and in particular Andrew Walsh for their support, Rusty and his team at Howard & Sons for providing the amazing flame effects and to Mark Hopkins and his team at ResolutionX for the incredible lighting.

I’ve been uploading photos to flickr from our build process, to the installation and tear down and of course photos from White Night.

If you want to stay in touch and hear about future installations and workshops that we’ll be hosting please click here and sign up for our mailing list. You can also find us on facebook, twitter, instagram and pinterest.
